The National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) is a web-based trading platform initiated by the Government of India in April 2016 to develop a single national market for agricultural produce. It looks to integrate the current Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) across states into a single digital platform, facilitating farmers, traders, and buyers to trade efficiently and transparently.
With e-NAM, farmers are able to obtain improved price discovery of their produce because it facilitates price comparisons from multiple markets. The platform encourages competition among buyers, lowering the role of middlemen and guaranteeing farmers reasonable returns. Quality testing, online payment, and electronic weighment are additional features that improve transparency and confidence in transactions.
e-NAM currently reaches hundreds of mandis spread across a few states, dealing with large numbers of commodities such as cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables. It has mobile applications integrated into it, facilitating easy farmer registration and digital trading.
Through One Nation, One Market, e-NAM enhances India’s farm supply chain, increases farmer incomes, and aligns with the vision of a digitally empowered rural economy.
